Tim Cook Expects Jio to Boost the Experience of iPhone Users in India

Reliance Jio is the digital arm of parent company, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Providing end-to-end digital solutions to consumers across the country, the world’s largest start-up offers telecom services, affordable 4G-enabled devices, and personal hotspot devices.

Reliance Jio Welcome Offer

Reliance Jio’s wide user base and popularity are partly attributed to the Jio Welcome Offer. As part of this offer, individuals can enjoy unlimited free data, voice or video calling, and messaging services until the 31st of December, 2016. Additionally, users can also download and use its premium applications for free until the end of the year.

However, considering TRAI regulations, Reliance Jio stated that its offer would be available for subscription until the 3rd of December 2016, which would grant free services till the end of the year. A Jio spokesperson explained that although users can enjoy the offer till end of 2016, it would not be available as an option post the 3rd of December. After that, the company will introduce its tariff rates and packages in the market.

The service provider also tied up with Apple iPhones in India. Buyers of new iPhone handsets can enjoy up to a year of free Reliance Jio services.

Reliance Jio and iPhones

Apple, a company based in Cupertino, stated that its iPhone sales went up by 50% in the fiscal year of 2016. The company stated that it has just initiated its entry into the ever-growing Indian mobile phone market, and has a long way to go. Post its launch, Reliance Jio announced that its services were compatible with all Apple flagship smart phones. This also coincided with the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Tim Cook, Apple CEO, explained how Reliance Jio, being the only all-IP network provider in India would help individuals in 18,000 cities and 200,000 villages gain access to quality 4G coverage. He stated that the partnership would help his company offer adequate support and enhanced services to buyers.

Company’s user base

Anshuman Thakur, Business Head at Reliance Jio, stated that the company is adding 0.6 to 1.1 million customers to its network on a daily basis. This inflow volume will help the company to adhere to its target of acquiring 100 million subscribers in the upcoming year. Jio has proven to be the fastest in terms of user acquisition, having garnered 16 million customers in less than three months of being fully operational.

The company stated that it would be investing an additional INR 1 lakh crore by 2020 in its operational divisions. This is following the investment of INR 1.45 trillion, which was utilized to set up the company.

Following the commercial launch of Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio on 5th September 2016, the company partnered with many leading smart phone manufacturers that retail devices functioning on VoLTE technology. Through these associations, Reliance Jio has diversified its user segments across price categories as well as brands. This has helped the Indian telecom operator to garner an extensive user base across India.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, believes that Reliance Jio’s 4G services will enrich the user experience of iPhone buyers.
