Reliance Jio Partners with Hong Kong-Based DMX Technologies

The digital arm of Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Reliance Jio is the most recent entrant into the Indian telecom market. Serving as more than just a network service provider, the company is referred to as the world’s largest start-up.

Services offered by Jio include an exclusive range of flagship applications, 4G LTE-enabled smart phones, telecom facilities, and hotspot devices. By diversifying its services, Jio aims to digitize the lives of millions of Indians. The company’s long-term aim is to introduce the concept of a digital life to the masses with the help of smart appliances, applications, and services.

Reliance Jio also plans to install 45,000 mobile towers additionally, which will result in expenditure worth INR 1 lakh crore. In order to manage its utility services and reduce costs, the company has even partnered with Hong Kong-based technology giant, DMX Technologies.

DMX Technologies

DMX Technologies initiated a pilot run in the year 2014 when it showcased EverestIMS, which focused on IT infrastructure management. The suite helps to increase a network’s resilience, facilitates agility in a business, and also reduces the operational costs involved.

Reliance Jio owns the most comprehensive spectrum coverage across the country and is a 4G operator. These are reasons why DMX Technologies believes that its software solutions can help the 4G service provider realize its potential to the optimum. DMX Technologies believes that the telecom operator’s pain point is the expense incurred due to the use of power and diesel to power Jio’s telecom towers. The business efficiency of the telecom operator is set to increase once its services are monitored and managed by DMX Technologies.

Utility management

DMX Technologies will be responsible for monitoring Reliance Jio’s mobile tower utility for a minimum of three years. The company aims to reduce the telecom provider’s operational costs across its 22 circles in the country.

Head of Operations in India for DMX Technologies, Satish Kumar, explained how the company spent almost a year in order to familiarize itself with the requirements of a 4G service provider. The deal with Reliance Jio includes custom solutions devised to serve the utility monitoring of its towers. He explained that the company’s solutions would help Reliance Jio to optimize its business efficiency. The company will then be able to track and analyze a comprehensive overview of its power consumption across all its towers in Indian telecom circles.

This partnership will be highly beneficial as the telecom operator is conducting extensive testing of its LTE-A services, which are to be launched over the upcoming months.

Reliance Jio’s LTE-A network

LTE-A refers to Long-Term Evolution Advanced technology, which is an enhanced version of LTE. This is an attempt by Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio to overtake competitor 4G-LTE networks. It plans to roll out LTE-A network in major Indian cities. This will allow its network to serve a wider user base because of the state-of-the-art technology used.

The tests are being conducted in 16 different telecom circles, where Reliance Jio was granted access to the 10 MHz spectrum in a recent auction. To supplement this network, additional flagship smart phones that are compatible with the network service will also be introduced soon.
