Everything You Need to Know About the Reliance JioGigaFiber Service

Reliance Jio, the telecom wing of the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), is all set to launch the Reliance JioGigaFiber fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband service across India. Ambani had announced this foray into the Indian broadband market in July 2018, at the company’s 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM). While the registrations for the service are already ongoing, the company is yet to officially announce details of the commercial rollout.

Details of Reliance JioGigaFiber service

According to Reliance Jio, this service will provide subscribers with a 1Gbps broadband speed. The telecom company will make the service available in 1,100 Indian cities. It aims to bring the service to approximately 50 million homes across the country.

The Reliance JioGigaFiber service is an all-in-one internet solution. Its objective is to provide several new services, which include IPTV, broadband, virtual reality, landline, Internet of Things (IoT), and the like. This service utilizes a network of an optical fiber to deliver high-speed broadband connectivity.

How to register for the service

Online registrations for the broadband service began on August 15, 2018. Subscribers who are interested in the service can register for it on Reliance Jio’s official website, Jio.com. They can also register for it via the MyJio app. The registrations are free of cost. When the company will roll out the service, the city and society/area, which reflects the maximum amount of registrations, will receive the service first.

The 29 cities that are expected to receive the service first include Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Ranchi, Indore, Thane, Lucknow, Bhopal, Patna, Kanpur, Raipur, Allahabad, Ghaziabad, Nagpur, Madurai, Ludhiana, Faridabad, Nashik, Coimbatore, Guwahati, Meerut, Agra, Srinagar, Rajkot, Amritsar, Jodhpur, Chandigarh, Sholapur, and Kota. It should be noted that the telecom company has not confirmed this yet.

Details of the preview offer

During the initial rollout, subscribers of the broadband service will enjoy the JioGigaFiber preview offer. The offer will last for three months and will provide subscribers with 100 GB of data at a speed of 100 Mbps.

In addition to this, the telecom company will offer 40GB extra data in case subscribers exhaust their 100 GB data limit. To avail of this, the recharge can be done via Jio.com or through the MyJio app. It should also be noted that, because this is a preview offer, subscribers must make a one-time refundable security fee payment of INR 4,500. This amount represents the fee for the router.

Speculations of the rollout

There have been some speculations regarding the rollout of the broadband service. Some speculations claim that it may take one or two years to spread the services across the country. BTWi news also speculates that the broadband service will be free of cost till March 2019. In addition, Reliance Jio may offer JioGigaTV/JioDTH before the end of December 2018.

Summary: Reliance Jio is all set to launch the Reliance JioGigaFiber fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband service. While an official launch date has not been announced, registrations for the service have begun on the company’s website.
